Amethyst

Let’s have our own secret friendship stone! The other child looked at her friend in naïve awe, yes! What colour shall it be? How bout purple, I like that colour. Ohh!! I like purple too! I know, there are these purple stones called amethyst, they’re really pretty jewels! The child gave her friend a questioning look, this made the other child feel a lil’ nervous, what if her friend didn’t like it? The next day, the other child with her mother went into a store across the street that sold toys for curious little children. The other child was very surprised when she saw a pretty purple sitting on one of the store’s shelves, tugging on the hem of her mother’s shirt, she asked her mother to buy her two pieces of beautiful amethyst crystals. Her mother paid for their purchase of ten dollars. She was happy. So happy. Her heart never fluttered around her chest with joy as she skipped all the way home with the two glittering purple gems in her hands. She couldn’t wait to show her friend what she had found. The child was delighted as the other child handed a purple glittering gem carefully wrapped in satin with a silky purple ribbon giving it a pretty finishing touch. 

Amethyst came from the greek word “amethystos” which means “not drunken” in English.

A girl in her midteens was in a hurry looking for a “special stone”, that was her homework, it was dued the next day and she hadn’t done it. What a stupid piece of homework, looking for a “special stone”?! It sounds like something teachers would tell grade threes to take to school for show and tell! Ohh well, it wasn’t like she was asked to write a 50-paged essay, if she really couldn’t find anything, she could just take any random piece of stone on the ground and make up something “special” about it. Suddenly an idea popped into her mind, looking through the drawers trying to remember where it was. Five minutes later to her triumph she found it. She untied the ribbon around the cheap metallic silver cloth and out fell a rough looking and an obvious fake precious stone.
